Data Engineer

We invite a Data Engineer with experience to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will architect and maintain cutting-edge data solutions that address the maritime industry's pressing challenges.
Collaborating with a dedicated team of Data Engineers, you will champion data management, uphold the integrity of key datasets, and bolster our commitment to robust data governance. Your expertise will empower RightShip to harness data's potential, guiding strategic decisions and amplifying our value proposition to both our team and our Customers.
Major Responsibilities
- Provide subject matter expertise in data management and governance.
- Provide expertise in data modelling, architecture, quality, cataloging, and lineage concepts.
- Utilize Unity Catalog for a centralized view, organization, and governance of data.
- Leverage experience in streaming technologies to manage real-time data processes.
- Implement and manage delta live tables to ensure data integrity and version control.
- Work with Azure cloud computing services, notably Azure SQL and Databricks.
- Provide proficiency in solid software engineering, particularly with application to data engineering.
- Leverage extensive experience with Spark for data processing tasks.
- Acquire, ingest, and process data from multiple sources and systems into our data platforms.
- Design and participate in the implementation of automated data quality validation solutions.
- Work across structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data.
- Participate in technical discussions and onboarding of appropriate data partners/vendors.
- Understand and implement principles of the medallion architecture in data processing and storage.
- Provide inputs to the BI and Data Science team while developing new products and reports.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
- Master's or bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, AI or equivalent disciplines.
- Strong foundation in solid software engineering principles.
- An appreciation of test-driven development methodology.
- Acquainted with a CI/CD container/release platform such as Azure Devops.
- Proficiency in Python, SQL, and Spark (PySpark).
- Advanced skills in Microsoft SQL Server, including CDC and system versioned tables.
- Familiarity with the Lakehouse model as a modern alternative to the classic EDW and data lake.
- A conceptual understanding of the Parquet columnal file format and the Delta protocol.
- Proven experience as a Data Engineer for 3+ years.
- A commitment towards enterprise data governance and familiarity with a computational platform for governance, security and data sharing such as Unity Catalog.
- Experience in dimensional modelling, star schemas and classic data warehousing practices.
- Comfortable working with batch and streaming workloads, preferably using Spark Structured Steaming.
- Experience with delta live tables and an understanding of their application in versioning and integrity.
- Knowledge of Delta Live Tables ETL framework and its role in building robust, high-quality pipelines to implement medallion architectures.
- Proven experience working extensively with Spark in data processing environments.
- Experience in master data, reference data, and metadata management solutions.
- Experience with the Azure Stack, notably Databricks.
- Databricks certifications are considered a significant asset.
- Experience in consuming and aggregating data from multiple sources, including APIs.
- Proficient in data extraction, manipulation, and presentation.
- Experience with Maritime datasets highly preferable.
- Adept at working with cross-functional groups across multiple geographies.
- Ability to deliver results with minimal supervision.
