The Business School

The Business School is the largest School in RMIT Vietnam with approximately eight thousand students on two campuses (Ho Chi Minh Saigon South and Hanoi). The school has three departments, more than 130 academic staff, four research fellows and 25 Professional staff. In terms of programs there are four bachelor programs, two PGCert programs, two Master programs and two PhD programs. Each department has one program and the fourth program has nine majors supported across the departments. The school is one of five schools of the RMIT College of Business and Law, Melbourne.

There are six research clusters in the school, three hubs and a forward plan will seek to conflate this structure to a Digital technologies centre and sustainability cluster, with Tourism and Hospitality spanning both domains. The expertise and research foci of the school are blockchain, cryptocurrencies, cybersecurity, smart cities, sustainability, and these contribute to the four RMIT pillars for research.

Recent growth areas have been in research and corporate education (AACSB accreditation is expected in 2024). Staff are currently transitioning into semester teaching whilst the school maintains three intakes and delivery. A new workload allocation framework is now applied to accommodate these developments.

Position Summary

The Deputy Dean, Research & Innovation, (DD R&I) reports to the Dean and is accountable for providing strategic and scholarly leadership for research activities in the school.

The DD R&I shapes the school's research strategy, in collaboration with the School Executive and members of the school. This research strategy recognises and builds the school's current and developing research strengths and capabilities. It aligns the school's research with the College's and University's strategy, initiatives and goals. The strategy also supports the school to engage with external and emerging opportunities and challenges. The research strategy is developed collaboratively, directing available resources to areas of likely greatest impact.

The DD R&I is responsible for leadership and oversight of School planning, performance monitoring and reporting related to research, and the enhancement of research capability and research outcomes. The position coordinates research activities within the school. The DD R&I is a member of the School Executive and works with Heads of Department and School research leaders. The DD R&I also works with individual academics, to advise and support them, and to help them build capability, and deliver excellent outcomes in the school's areas of strength/focus. The DD R&I also supports the recruitment of high-quality research students in these areas of strength/focus and works with the HDR Coordinator and supervisors to maintain a quality learning environment for research students. The DD R&I also promotes research collaboration within and between Schools, Enabling Capability Platforms, groups and centres strengthens the school's research linkages with industry and other organisations nationally and globally.

The position requires the incumbent to lead, innovate, influence, facilitate and mentor, as well as develop strategy and implement and manage change.

The Deputy Dean, Research & Innovation also has a close working relationship with the College's Associate DVC, Research & Innovation, the Deputy Deans, Research, and Innovation, of other schools within the College and other research leaders in the College and University. The school DD R&I is jointly responsible with them for determining and delivering College research and innovation strategy, and for setting Guiding Principles for work planning.

Expected Research profile

To be considered for a position at RMIT Vietnam in The Business School, you will need to be able to meet the following research criteria.

  • For candidates with a PhD awarded more than 5 years ago: you will be expected to demonstrate a minimum of 2 peer reviewed journal articles, of which must be ranked in Scimago or ABDC and preferably both in Q1/A ranking or equivalent.
  • For candidates with a PhD awarded within the last 3- 5 years although there are no requirements of peer reviewed journal articles for publication, you need to be research active in relevant research areas.
  • For candidates with a PhD awarded within the last 3 years, although there are no requirements you are expected to be research active.

The role located is Ho Chi Minh city Vietnam, is open for both local and expatriate candidates.

Work Permit: All foreign employees must adhere to the requirements for obtaining a valid visa and work permit in Vietnam. These requirements are mandated by the Government and may be over and above the mandatory requirements and key selection criteria. Work permit requirements are subject to change. RMIT Vietnam accepts zero tolerance to non-adherence of the immigration laws of Vietnam.

English Proficiency: English is the language of teaching and communication at RMIT Vietnam. For this role, the minimum requirement is IELTS (Academic) with a score of at least 7.0 with no band less than 6.5.
