The School Is Currently Looking To Recruit a
GENERAL SCIENCE (WITH ABILITY TO TEACH IGCSE BIOLOGY) TEACHER
(Maternity Cover: September 2024 - March 2025)
Applications are invited from enthusiastic, qualified and experienced teachers. A minimum of two years teaching in a Secondary school setting is required. A real passion in working with motivated and high achieving children is essential. The Maternity cover role will involve general science teaching at KS3 and IGCSE Coordinated Science (Biology topics) at KS4.
About The Department
The Science Department at BIS is a forward thinking and collaborative environment. This is typified by our mission statement We in the Science Department are encouraging students to be independent critical thinkers who are inquisitive about the world around them and learn from their mistakes. The team consists of highly motivated teachers who share good practice to produce and deliver experiences that develop the student's skills in scientific enquiry, promote intellectual curiosity and acquisition of knowledge. At Key Stage 3 students learn through a rich enquiry-based curriculum developed in-house. At Key Stage 4 students take CIE IGCSEs, they opt to take either the Coordinated Science course or all three sciences (Biology, Chemistry and Physics) as separate courses. At Key Stage 5 students take the IB programme choosing either one or two subjects at Standard or Higher Level, many elect to take two science subjects. Subjects include Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Systems and Societies and Sports, Exercise and Health Sciences . Our primary students follow the English National Curriculum blended with the thematic and interactive International Primary Curriculum and achieve outstanding outcomes. In Secondary our students continue with the English National Curriculum at Key Stage 3 in preparation for their IGCSEs and later, the rigorous IBDP. Our 2023 cohort of 107 IBDP graduates achieved an average score of 36.7 points, significantly higher than the global average of 30.2 points with 37.4 % of our students achieving 40 points or more and 3 students achieving a perfect score of 45. At IGCSE our students are equally successful. Our 2023 cohort of 130 students achieved 70.2% of grades at A*/A with 98.5% of our students achieving A* - C in 5 or more subjects and 25 students achieving A*/A grades across all their subjects.
Beyond academics, we have an exceptional enrichment programme with over 100 Co-Curricular activities and expeditions both in Vietnam and globally that help our students overcome challenges, build confidence, create unforgettable memories and create change to the communities around them.
