Position Objective
To assist with the coordination of the Health and Safety Compliance within the school setting.
This role does not cover areas such as data protection or child protection.
To oversee general health and safety compliance (as detailed in the School Health and Safety Folder Management System (Contractor; Asbestos; Fire; Health and Safety). Ensuring all actions are carried out and maintain liaison with all those with specific tasks allocated. To be responsible for the implementation and operation of the Cognita's Health and Safety Policy to ensure that key risks are identified and that appropriate control measures are implemented and that that all key risks and action points identified are followed up appropriately.
Responsibilities
The job holder's responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young person's for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the relevant Cognita Safeguarding; Child Protection Policy and Procedures at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the role, the job holder identifies any instance that a child is suffering or likely to suffer significant harm either at school or at home, s/he must report any concerns to the School's Child Protection Officer/Designated Safeguarding Lead or to the Head of indeed to the Regional CEP so that a referral can be made accordingly to the relevant third part services.
To promote a positive health and safety culture within the School
To ensure a clear, written health and safety policy has been developed, implemented, communicated and is updated regularly in accordance with legal obligations (alongside other appropriate guidance from the Cognita Region).
To maintain liaison with other specialist health, safety and fire roles appointed within the School, to co-ordinate compliance actions and provide a central point of contact.
To disseminate information relevant to health and safety compliance, to key parties within the School and Region.
To co-ordinate the School's Health and Safety Compliance Meetings, ensuring these are conducted in accordance with the Cognita Region Terms of Reference and KPI's
To ensure meetings are minuted and information shared with the Regional Health and Safety manager
Ensure quarterly KPI's are completed in a timely manner and forwarded to the Regional Health and Safety Manager.
To remain the central co-ordinator and key point of contact for any accident, incident or near miss occurrence. Ensuring thorough investigation, review, recording of information and escalation has been conducted.
Ensure all accidents incidents, near misses and serious incidents are reported in a timely manner to appropriate persons including the Regional Health and Safety manager.
To liaise with all School Departments to ensure risk assessments are produced for tasks/activities within such areas, with information provided to relevant parties and regular review undertaken.
Acting as a key contact and to co-operate with any enforcement agency such as local authority and fire authority, if required.
To ensure that systems are established to allow staff (both teaching and non-teaching) to receive adequate information, supervision and training (both induction training and on-going training) in health and safety matters relevant to their specialist area utilising the Tool kit training and to include First aid and CPR
To evaluate promptly and, where appropriate, take action on health, safety and welfare concerns and issues which are reported to them, or refer them to the HOS/ Regional Health and Safety Manager.
To ensure routine internal monitoring is established at the School and that items are closed out in a timely manner
Liaise closely with the Regional Health and Safety Manager in relation to the external audit
To ensure the regular update and close out of items from the Health and Safety audit and regular inspections
To carry out the monthly H&S Inspection together with relevant members, ensure all findings will be solved
To carry out H&S Inspection for Catering Service to ensure their service is maintained at highest level and complied with regulation, DOET's requirements
To ensure the Annual Risk Assessment for School Bus complied with H&S requirement
To review and provide advices/ guidance related to H&S for School Events, to be present on site for H&S Check for big events
To support schools incidents and sickness matters related to staff, students, and the community that may require traveling to hospitals, apartments, etc., working with police, stakeholders, and flexibility in working hours to accommodate or respond to emergency situations with Head of Schools, MDs, HR, Health manager, and clinic team.
Position Requirements
Experience: Previous experience in health and safety roles, with a strong understanding of safety regulations, risk management, and incident investigation.
Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of occupational health and safety laws, regulations, and best practices. Familiarity with industry-specific health and safety standards.
Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills to effectively convey safety policies and procedures to employees at all levels.
Analytical Skills: Strong analytical skills to assess workplace hazards, conduct risk assessments, and develop strategies for improvement.
Leadership Abilities: Leadership qualities to implement and manage health and safety programs, including training sessions and emergency response plans.
Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety standards.
Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify and solve health and safety issues, as well as develop and implement preventive measures.
Team Player: Collaborative attitude to work with different departments and teams to ensure a safe working environment.
Adaptability: Ability to adapt to changing regulations and proactively update safety policies accordingly.
Computer Skills: Proficiency in using relevant software and tools for safety management and reporting
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
Certification in Occupational Health and Safety (e.g., CSP, CIH) is preferred.
