JOB OVERVIEW
Under supervision provides on-site development support at Asian based suppliers for new product development. Reviews product designs for manufacturability and identifies potential processing and or design issues. Ensures production procedures efficiently utilize material and personnel.Conducts testing of finished product for quality purposes and proposes changes to product specifications as necessary.Works closely with Global Suppliers, Product Engineers, Process Engineers, Quality and Program Managers to meet program deliverables such as Quality, Performance, PAR dates and Launch requirements. Able to identify and resolve technical and logistical issues related to new programs. Validate Process Control Plans adequately define process, testing and inspection requirements. Conducts frequent audits and drives resolution to non-conformances.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Day to day support
Support HQ Product Engineers during new product development and production
Review Prototype and FA samples with suppliers and provide detailed analysis of findings
Identify and Resolve processing issues related to new programs
Set preliminary target and limit samples for cosmetics
Conduct daily Critical Process Audits to ensure suppliers are following best practices
Work with Quality to contain non-conformances from shipping and quarantine of affected material.
Ensure duplicate targets and limits are established at dual sourced suppliers
Support Product Qualifications and provide detailed analysis of findings with recommendations
Assist with Gauge Development
SPC Daily Monitoring
Review production schedules with suppliers to insure initial launch requirements are being satisfied
Follow up with suppliers on process capability improvements.
Product/Process qualifications and improvements
Assess Supplier processes for Process Capability as required to achieve and maintain sustained production.
Work with the Supplier base to drive corrective action based on part non-conformances, inadequate structural or coating durability, poor performance or field returns.
Conduct on-site approval of 2nd or 3rd tools to ensure components meet design intent and specification
Manage necessary testing at the WFOE office to support component analysis and part release.
TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES
Solid knowledge and experience utilizing engineering fundamentals and testing methods.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Able to work with suppliers in an independent mode to solve technical problems.
Ability to lead technical meetings and report project status.
Experience with investment casting, forging, machining, welding, metal finishing, coatings, and/or composites required.
Experience with injection and compression molding helpful.
Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint)
Knowledge of Siemens Team Center Engineering useful.
Knowledge and demonstrated application of quality methods and tools. This includes but is not limited to 6 Sigma, FMEA, Design of Experiments, Statistical Process Controls, Measure System Analysis.
Able to work extended hours in critical situations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
BS in Engineering or equivalent required.
Minimum 3 years related experience
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT (if applicable)
Work is performed on site at manufacturing facilities. 75% of the time should be spent on the floor working new development activities, monitoring processes and validating improvements. The remaining 25% of the time will be spent creating reports and email communication.
Working conditions in each facility may vary.Work stations are available at all primary manufacturing sites.
Extensive use of office Excel, Powerpoint and Minitab.
Must be able to provide manufacturing floor support and stand for long periods of time.
Occasionally required to lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds, regularly lift and/or carry up to 20 pounds and perform moderately demanding physical tasks.
Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Valid passport and travel required
