Position Summary
The Senior Media and Communications Specialist is responsible for managing RMIT Vietnam's communications and media relations in Ho Chi Minh City, national, regional, and international. This includes planning and creating content in line with communications objectives and strategic plans for external audiences, responding to media enquiries, coordinating media presence at University events, media activities on campus, and providing communication consultation to schools and operations about media relations and interests.
The position leads media monitoring and analysis, including generating periodically and ad hoc reports on media coverage of RMIT Vietnam and emerging issues and trends.
This is an 8-month contract position.
Reporting Line
Reports to: External Communications Manager
Key Accountabilities
- Help maintain RMITs share of voice create and draft content, and lead additional content production, to tell the news and stories of staff, student and alumni achievements to help position RMIT Vietnam positively. This includes, but not limited to media releases, articles for internal/external, advertorials, social media posts, key messages, FAQs, speeches and news videos and scripts
- Media collaboration proactively pitch to and work closely with media in Vietnam and the region.
- Ensure timely and appropriate responses to media enquiries. Manage Executive, staff and student media interviews as required. Build and maintain relationship with mainstream media in Vietnam and the region, as well as explore long-term media collaborations and emerging amplification and content opportunities.
- Work to profile RMIT experts and research in thought leadership content series
- Reporting monitor RMIT Vietnam's presence in print, broadcast and online media to detect potential issues; media reports (major events; monthly, quarterly and annual media activity reports.)
- PR lead and manage media plans and budget for PR campaigns for important occasions and major University events.
- Partnership Act as an expert source of information in Saigon South for schools and operations to understand and support key communications needs. Facilitate media training workshops for internal stakeholders.
- Work with social media and multimedia team to maximise video and social media opportunities for RMIT generated content and stories
- Seek media partnership opportunities, maximising coverage online and offline.
- Business Continuity Plan Act as a member of the Recovery Team to manage all communications that may impact the University reputation externally, with a strong focus on traditional media.
- Coordinate campus tours for media agencies and other key stakeholders (ie. local and foreign universities, government authorities.)
- Provide accurate interpretation and translation services as required.
- Other duties as assigned by the Head of Communications - Vietnam and the External Communications Managers.
Key Selection Criteria
- A tertiary qualification in related industry such as professional communication, public relations, corporate communication, marketing.
- At least three years of experience working in a communications environment, particularly in regards to media relations and reputation management in both English and Vietnamese.
- You have proven skills in content production, including but not limited to content briefing, content planning, copywriting and content ideation.
- Strong network of media contacts in Vietnam and the region.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral in English, communicating with precision and with sensitivity to the need for clear and unambiguous communication with targeted audiences.
- Good organisational, planning, and analytical skills.
- A good team player with ability to work effectively in teams or autonomously. Previous experiences in working with media / reporters are necessary.
- Experience working in an educational environment or similar large, complex organisation is an advantage.
English Proficiency
English is the language of teaching and communication at RMIT Vietnam. For this role, the minimum requirement is IELTS (General) score of at least 6.5 (or equivalent, as outlined in the Recruitment, Selection and Onboarding Guidelines).
For any role, English Language Proficiency may also be proven by showing successful completion of secondary education to a level qualifying to enter university study while being instructed through the medium of English, as per the RMIT University recognised qualification list.
