Your role:

To manage the plant operations (i.e. Raw Material Supply, Batch and Furnace, Forming, Inspection, Packaging, Logistics and Shift Maintenance) and support the FMUs on a designated rotating shift basis to achieve production targets within established safety, time, quality, and cost constraints.

Key responsibilities:

Shift Manager

  • Within the Shift, maintain operating schedules and control activities to meet safety, quality and efficiency targets.
  • Allocate shift resources to ensure batching, melting, forming, inspection and auditing are well managed to deliver finished products that meet customer specifications.
  • Manage and address any problems that arise concerning quality issues, adherence to protective clothing requirements, and the completion of Accident Report forms.
  • Ensure that the scheduled production output is achieved or exceeded within budgeted labour costs by controlling overtime and absenteeism.
  • Liaise with supervisors of other areas, e.g. Mould Repair, Production Engineering and Engineering Services, to ensure that services necessary to maintain production efficiency are provided during the shift.
  • Monitor variables affecting production yields and initiate timely and effective corrective action.
  • Oversee quality control checks and audits to ensure finished products adhere to quality standards and any issues are promptly rectified.
  • Minimise downtime in all areas of the plant by ensuring early rectification of fault and by highlighting persistent problems to management for investigation.
  • Ensure adherence to housekeeping and hygiene standards.
  • Ensure all processes and procedures are documented, implemented, and maintained as per the integrated Quality Management System requirements and for certifications such as ISO, FSSC, GMP etc.
  • Participate in meetings relating to production, quality, safety, and other operational matters as determined by Production Support Manager or the FMU.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the shift including ensuring appropriate training and development of shift personnel.
  • Ensure production efficiencies are maintained to meet targets by establishing effective communication across departments within the shift.
  • Report regularly to the Production Support Manager and the respective FMU on all production matters.
  • At the end of each shift, write a brief report covering problems encountered (particularly those which contributed to loss of efficiency) and actions taken to rectify them.
  • Ensure effective communication occurs with appropriate Managers and Supervisors to ensure knowledge of problems and corrective actions which occurred on shift are passed onto the next shift.

General

  • Lead the OHSE improvement process through hazard identification, risk assessment, development of SOPs, conducting safety talks, accident investigation and personal role modelling of exemplary OHSE standards.
  • Ensure all processes and procedures are documented, implemented, and maintained as required for certifications such as ISO, FSSC, GMP
  • Supervise/manage the performance, development, attendance, and behaviour of staff.
  • Manage Cost Centres: Participate in annual budget process, approve all cost centre expenditure, provide FYE by item by month, ensure cost centre budget is not exceeded.
  • Shift Managers are responsible for providing cover for other Shift Managers ^ CE super during sick leave and annual leave.
  • Ensure all staff are aware of and follow employment and legislative responsibilities in relation to safety, discrimination, HR policies, quality, and the environment.

Other duties as instructed by management.

Requirement:

5-10 years glass industry experience required.

In-depth knowledge of glass manufacturing processes required.

Proven ability to manage high performing team required.

Proven ability to implement a culture of continuous improvement required.

Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally required.

Proven planning skills required.

Proven analytical skill required.

Proven ability to mange documentation for ISO, GMP, FSSC and associated certification required.

LSS qualification an advantage.
